Brethren, I do not count myself to have
apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which
are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press
toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. -Philippians
3:13-14 NKJV)
Godly maturation requires sacrifice. We can not bring all
the issues and desires of Christian infancy into higher levels of knowing God.
Numerous people wonder why they are not growing in Christ. This is often due to
not wanting to let go of the old life. In our society we make fun of teenagers
who still suck their thumbs or young adults who still act like children. Why? Because
for each level of maturity certain behavior is just out of character.
There is a certain character you must have to grow into
spiritual maturity. But it starts with letting go. Let go of habits you know
are wrong. Stop giving your time to those you know are not helping you grow in
Christ. Be honest with yourself and identify what needs to go. God doesn’t want
you to stay a baby. If you want
the absolute best that He has for you, then it is time to get serious and do
some hard work.
