Olympic Spirituality-Thursday Thought

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. - 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Look at the intensity of these Olympic runners and boxers striving to beat their opponent and go for the gold. Runners have only one thing in mind, the finish line. They are not running aimlessly. Boxers are not throwing punches at the air. They have a specific target they are intending to hit. Christians, be intentional in your walk with Christ. Strain towards godliness. Be specific in beating and overcoming your sin nature. Don't be disqualified. Your zeal for godliness is what proves your dedication to Jesus.
